Videoconferencing is a
communication tool which allows video and audio connections between two or more
sites. IVN, as part of STAGEnet, provides videoconferencing connections for the
higher ed campuses as well as K-12 schools, NDSU Extension and Research Centers,
and state government.
IVN provides the bridging
which allows up to 12 sites to connect simultaneously. IVN uses the industry
transmission standard of internet protocol H.323.
IVN is able to connect to
H.320 or other standards with compatible equipment, but testing is required.
There will also be a charge for this type of service. For connection to sites
not on STAGEnet or outside the state, additional information and testing is
required.
The interactivity with
videoconferencing can be enhanced by using other audio visual aids with the
equipment. Most rooms are equipped with a document camera or VCR. Laptops may be
available or can be brought in for PowerPoint presentations.
Classroom technicians can be
requested to operate the equipment for the presenter in higher education sites.
Videoconferencing equipment is easy to use. Higher ed site and technical
coordinators can train those who wish to learn more about the teaching
techniques or operating videoconferencing equipment.
Types of Connections
Videoconferencing connections consist of two types.
